Closing Event Right to Reyeroord #1

Discussing results of co-creative research into providing space for local initiatives

On January 24th Design & Publics organized an event at which the results of Right to Reyeroord #1 were presented.

  • In a panel discussion Ilona (municipality; local), Rachel (TalentzSkool), Clyde (SOL; welfare organization), Rob (municipality; central) and Els (Design & Publics) discussed the role of the municipality in city-making.
  • Studio Roozenburch presented the documentary they created about the process.
  • Nik (Pantopicon), Silvia (Veenoord School) and Emiel (Design & Publics) presented the creative interventions used during the process, such as the future-oriented workshops; a collaboration of students with a street art artist; and life-size cards which were meant to make both civil servants and citizens rethink their roles in city-making processes.
  • The municipal secretary (gemeentesecretaris in Dutch) held a closing speech in which he urged his colleagues and local organizations to “do what is necessary,” rather than what is in one’s job description in order to make necessary social innovation happen.
